Portland, Oregon. (Oct. 13) β Following her strong performance against a pair of nationally ranked teams, UAA senior Madison Galloway has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for volleyball.
A libero from Pensacola, Fla., Galloway averaged 4.78 digs per set and posted a .970 serve-receive percentage as UAA lost in four sets Thursday at No. 20 Western Washington and earned a 3-2 upset of No. 7 Simon Fraser on Saturday in Canada. She also committed no service errors in 26 attempts, with three aces.
After tallying 16 digs Thursday in Bellingham, Galloway anchored the win over Simon Fraser with a career-high 27 digs. The teamβs lone fourth-year senior also went 45 of 45 in serve-receive as the Seawolves came back from a 24-20 deficit in the fourth set.
βMaddy remains the backbone of our serve-receive and defense, not only taking up a lot of space on the court but directing traffic and communicating to help the team as a whole,β said UAA coach Stacie Meisner. βShe is a true competitor and leader on the court, and she made some clutch plays against great attackers from both Western and Simon.β
It is the second GNAC weekly honor for Galloway this season, following her effort on opening week in the ΠάΓ¨ΤΪΟίΚΣΖ΅/Hawaii Challenge.
Galloway and the Seawolves are back in action at the ΠάΓ¨ΤΪΟίΚΣΖ΅ Airlines Center this week, hosting Central Washington on Thursday (Saddle-Up-For-A-Cure Pink Night, presented by Aurora Integrated Oncology Foundation) and Northwest Nazarene on Saturday (Pack the House, presented by Marathon Petroleum β all tickets $5).
