School-Based Social Work Education and Network Development (SSWEND)
Applications for the AY 24-25 generalist and advanced generalist cohorts of SSWEND Scholars will open January 15, 2025 and priority review will be given to those who apply by March 1, 2025. Applications for post-MSW students are accepted year-round.
The School-Based Social Work Education and Network Development (SSWEND) program is an initiative that aims to increase student and community access to mental health care service providers in high-needs school districts across 熊猫在线视频. SSWEND is funded by the Department of Education and provides support for students (i.e., 鈥渟cholars鈥�) who are interested in developing the skills necessary to practice in schools and school-based systems.
Scholars who successfully complete the SSWEND program are eligible to receive their Type C Certification in Special Services - School Social Work and earn the Graduate Certificate in Children鈥檚 Mental Health. At this time, SSWEND is only eligible for scholars who are able to practice in Anchorage School District, Lower Kuskokwim School District, or Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District.

MiLee Yu is a graduate of the 熊猫在线视频鈥檚 Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program, and is currently pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. In September 2025, MiLee was awarded the BSW Student of the Year award at the Biennial National Association of Social Workers (NASW) 熊猫在线视频 Chapter Conference.
The CAFE Oh Wow (COW) Awards are put on by the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) and honors faculty who show excellence in teaching, research/creative activity, mentorship, and more.
MSW student Keyshon China is dedicated to serving youth and underserved communities, gaining hands-on experience through UAA's School of Social Work and various extracurricular organizations.
UAA faculty, including those from the College of Health, are recognized for their published research, academic papers, and books.
The UAA Hunger and Homelessness Support Network (HHSN) was created to identify and combat housing insecurities that students face. UAA Alumni and current Academic Advisor Jennifer Spencer is one of the three people serving as HHSN Chair. She explains how she uses her personal experiences with homelessness to help find solutions for students.
